Birthstones are gems associated with the month that a person was born. To start off, here's the list of each birthstone by month.

  • January Birthstone: Garnet
  • February Birthstone: Amethyst
  • March Birthstone: Aquamarine
  • April Birthstone: Diamond
  • May Birthstone: Emerald
  • June Birthstone: Pearl or Alexandrite
  • July Birthstone: Ruby
  • August Birthstone: Peridot
  • September Birthstone: Sapphire
  • October Birthstone: Tourmaline or Opal
  • November Birthstone: Topaz or Citrine
  • December Birthstone: Tanzanite, Zircon or Turquoise

Birthstones appear to have a biblical source, tracing back to the book of Exodus in the Bible and specifically on the breastplate of Aaron. The breastplate was inlaid with 12 gemstones that each represented the twelve tribes of Israel at the time. This specific breastplate was adorned with the following gems: emerald, sapphire, diamond, topaz, carbuncle, sardius, agate, ligure, amethyst, onyx, jasper, and beryl.

"There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes."

Are Birthstones Gemstones Or Minerals?

One of the tenant building blocks of rocks are minerals, which geologists have a very precise definition for. In order to be technically a mineral, a substance must meet these five requirements. The substance must be naturally occurring (not man-made), inorganic, solid, with a defined chemical composition, and ordered internal structure.

List of Chakra Stones7 Chakra, chakra meaning, chakra stone

Each chakra is typically associated with one or several stones. Here’s a list to help you chose your healing crystal depending on the energy center you’re focusing on.

How Do Healing Stones Work?

Chakra stones are used to activate, balance, or amplify the energy of the chakras. Crystal healing is based on the belief that stones or crystals have a natural healing frequency that can be activated to contribute to moving or balancing energy around them. In the case of chakra stones, the vibrational signature of each crystal corresponds or resonates with specific energy centers.

Using Stones For Healing The Chakras

There are many ways to use chakra stones for healing. Once you’ve chosen the stone you want to use, place it near or on the chakra location on the body. A laying down position is easier for working with crystals. However, you may use a stone while you’re standing or sitting by simply holding it in your hands or wearing it as jewelry on a pendent, in your pocket to keep it close to your body.

Focus on activating the resonance between the stone and your chakras with the power of your intention, meditation, or simply relax knowing you have the support of your chakra stone to harmonize frequencies.

Don’t forget to cleanse or recharge your stones before and after using them. For that, there are many methods including leaving them under water or salt water for a little while (use caution with salt water as some crystals are sensitive to it), leaving them under the sun or the moon light for the day or the night, smudging them with sage, burying them in the soil for an extended period of time for more intense regeneration.
